The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) has partnered with SMART Communications Inc., a wireless communication and digital service provider in the Philippines, and Instigators, Inc., a private software development company specializing in the development of web and mobile-based solutions, for the development of Biosentinel – a user-friendly mobile application for the analysis of ecological data and information. This mobile application is intended for use by the protected area managers and staff, and other local personnel to record observations in real-time while out in patrol, and as a portable facility that allows for short-term and long-term data analysis of ecological information and threats.
In the duration of the development of Biosentinel, the Instigators will provide their services free of charge for the ASEAN Heritage Parks. Part of the development process will involve the Biodiversity Information Management of ACB, particularly in the development of the database structures, content mobilization, and testing.
The Biosentinel will be initially deployed at the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve in cooperation with the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME).
