MHRWS is located in the Municipalities of San isidro and Gov. Generoso, and City of Mati, all in the Province of Davao Oriental

 

Description:

Declared as a protected area for its highly unique and important biological and physical attributes (Republic Act 9303)

 

Habitat Types:

Agro-ecosystem, Dipterocarp Forest, Montane Forest, Mossy Forest, Mossy-Pygmy Forest
At the topmost vegetation type of the sanctuary there lies the largest expanse of bonsai field containing at least a thousand hectares of bonsai-like century-old pygmy trees and associated plants.

 

Unique Flora:

Important flora include Pitcher plant Nepenthes hamiguitanensis (site endemic), Ground orchid Paphiopedilum adductum (CR) and Shorea dipterocarps (4 CR)

 

Unique Fauna:

Philippine Eagle (CR), Southern rofous hornbill (VU), Butterfly Delias magsadana (site endemic)
