Target 21: By 2021, mechanisms, rules and regulations related to access and benefits sharing of genetic resources are developed by research and local communities.
The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing takes into account the interconnection between genetic resources and local knowledge, recognizing the need to ensure sustainable livelihood of communities, paying attentions to the rights of local communities as owners of the knowledge. In meeting such directives, Thailand needs to enhance the capacity of local communities and other relevant sectors, particularly the research communities, in ensuring appropriate, fair and equitable access and benefit sharing of genetic resources. They start the community registration system which responses to the (Draft) Biodiversity Act.
