ASEAN Youth Biodiversity Programme
Partner: European Union (EU)
Duration: 2017-2023
Background
Biodiversity is the variety of all life on Earth. It ensures food security, environmental health, and the sustainable development and well-being of mankind. More than 630 million people in the ASEAN region depend on biodiversity for their food, clean water, clean air, and livelihood
The youth of ASEAN, defined as persons 15 – 35 years old, represent over 33% of the ASEAN population and are the stewards of a resilient future dependent on biodiversity. Young people all over the region, with our energy, passion, command of technology, and fresh ideas, are part of the solution to halt biodiversity loss.
To empower ASEAN’s youth to contribute to the formulation and implementation of biodiversity policies, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) spearheads the ASEAN Youth Biodiversity Programme (AYBP) in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN), the official youth constituency to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). AYBP is supported by the European Union through the Biodiversity Conservation and Management of Protected Areas in ASEAN (BCAMP) Project.
