Target 12: By 2020, pollution has been brought to levels that are not detrimental to ecosystem function and biodiversity.
Pollutions derived from household, agricultural, tourist and industrial activities have had both direct and indirect impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity. The most notable of the pollutions include chemical contamination, poorly disposed hazardous and other solid wastes, water and air pollution at the level which is detrimental to both human health and biodiversity. Controlling the emission of pollutants at their sources and taking precaution to prevent contamination in atmospheric and other environments are therefore needed to protect ecosystems and biodiversity from pollution.
