Happy New Year from the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity!

Nature is a vital component of the solutions to the crises that the world is facing. For the ASEAN, 2021 is a turning point for biodiversity, with renewed targets and commitments that require collective actions. Among the many achievements of the region, this year is the launch of the ASEAN Green Initiative (AGI) as a whole-of-society response to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Through this initiative, the region will recognise outstanding forest ecosystem restoration efforts that contribute to planting and growing at least 10 million native trees across the 10 ASEAN Member States in a span of 10 years.

There is no better time to intensify our efforts than now. The strength and resilience of ASEAN’s native plant species are valuable traits worthy of emulation as we all take part in restoring our ecosystems for people and nature. Together, let us plant the seeds of hope and be inspired by nature as we face a brighter and greener 2022.
