90-Day Particle Dispersion Simulation for Indonesia-Philippines Sub-domain (Northeast Monsoon)
This video shows the dispersion of passive particles within the Indonesia-Philippines sub-domain, as advected by ocean currents during the Northeast Monsoon. Daily global surface currents from the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HyCOM) dataset were used in a Lagrangian model, to obtain the particle trajectories from multiple releases made on all coastline cells. Day 1 shows the particle positions from the first release at the point of origin. Subsequent days up to Day 16 show additional particles being released, while previous releases continue to be tracked. Day 90 shows the positions of all particles at the end of the run. For this case, a total of 3,566,400 particles were released for a duration of 16 days.
